An appreciation for Guglielmo Vicario’s exceptional skills as a goalkeeper has been expressed by Tottenham Hotspur’s manager, Ange Postecoglou.
Currently in Australia with his team, Postecoglou shared these thoughts in view of Tottenham’s prep for a pre-season meeting with West Ham that is scheduled for tomorrow.
He was questioned about the team’s goalkeeper roster, especially with the expected departure of the team’s skipper Hugo Lloris this summer.
Vicario, who switched to Spurs from Empoli last month, is indeed a replacement for the French team leader.
Meanwhile, Fraser Forster, the secondary goalkeeper, is out due to an injury, leading to speculations if Tottenham would consider another alternative for the position.
However, Postecoglou, who previously led Celtic, defused these speculations and expressed his admiration for Vicario, the new first-choice goalkeeper.
Vicario’s performance impresses Postecoglou
According to an interview with Football.London, Postecoglou shared that he is already quite impressed with Vicario.
“Even though Fraser is unavailable at the moment due to his injury, I can confidently say that Guglielmo Vicario has integrated well with the team. He is not just a good person, but an outstanding goalie.
“As of now, I’m pretty satisfied. My focus is not particularly on recruiting more goalkeepers,” he explained.
Vicario, who had a standout stint in Serie A last season, caught the attention of top-tier teams such as Inter Milan and Juventus before making his move to Spurs.
After choosing not to pursue David Raya of Brentford due to his high price, Spurs instead opted for the 26-year-old Italian. He brings a wealth of potential, and if he can adapt to the Premier League, Spurs may have made an astute investment.
Vicario steps into the large shoes left by Lloris, who was an instrumental figure for Spurs in recent years.
