It seems Tottenham Hotspur remains keen on Yassine Bounou, with strong indications that the renowned goalkeeper will be leaving Sevilla during the summer transfer window.
As reported by AS, the highly-rated goalkeeper from Morocco could be purchased for as low as £17.1 million following the loss of his former position as the number one keeper for the Europa League champions.
Yassine Bounou – often referred to as Bono – had a breakout performance during the World Cup last year. He notably aided Morocco in its journey to the semi-finals in Qatar, marking the team as the first African nation to achieve such a feat.
Tottenham Hotspur Continues to Track Yassine Bounou
Yet, his time with Sevilla during the second half of the season was less fruitful. He only featured in one more league match after the final day of March, suggesting that the 2-1 defeat against Real Madrid was likely his last La Liga appearance for Sevilla.
As stated by AS, Bounou is set to part ways with Sevilla this summer season. Because Sevilla needs to amass funds in this window, the 32-year-old has been granted permission to leave in exchange for £17.1 million.
AS also mentions that Inter is considering Bounou as a potential substitute for André Onana. Interestingly enough, it is also reported that Tottenham is maintaining its watchful eye on his changing situation.
The affiliation with Tottenham comes as a surprise as they have already acquired the services of Guglielmo Vicario this summer. Nevertheless, Hugo Lloris currently remains in the team.
Fraser Forster had proven to be a commendable backup last season. Therefore, if Lloris were to leave, it would not be an entirely unexpected move for Ange Postecoglou to be satisfied with Forster as backup for Vicario.
However, if they manage to bring Bounou into competition with Vicario, this might represent excellent business. The Moroccan shot-stopper has been described as an ‘incredible’ goalkeeper, and the cost for such a caliber of player is not significantly high for a club like Tottenham.
Of course, Bounou might not favor leaving Sevilla to compete for the main goalkeeper trade-off at another club. This makes a transfer considerably unlikely at this point.
However, ideally, Tottenham would undoubtedly appreciate having two exemplary goalkeepers competing for the starter’s position.
