Ally McCoist hypothesizes that a top query from James Maddison during conversations with Tottenham Hotspur might have been about Harry Kane’s future with the team.
McCoist provided his insights on talkSPORT following the confirmation last evening that Spurs have successfully signed the national player from England.
James Maddison marks Tottenham’s first significant acquisition for the summer season. As reported by BBC Sport, Maddison has committed himself to Spurs for a duration of five years in return for paying £40 million to Leicester City.
McCoist envisions questions from Maddison about Kane before committing to Tottenham
Tottenham securing Maddison for that price is a win. He contributed directly to 19 league goals in the previous season, and as per the Daily Mail, Tottenham overcame competition from Manchester City to sign Maddison.
For Tottenham fans, the thrilling part is seeing Maddison potentially getting paired with Harry Kane in games. Spurs likely haven’t had an athlete as skilled as Maddison since Christian Eriksen left.
Yet, Kane’s future in North London appears uncertain. Thus leaving doubts whether the duo will play together in the forthcoming season.
McCoist is of the belief that prior to agreeing to join Tottenham, the 26-year-old would have wanted to know what is possibly in store for Kane.
“One would presume that would be a question James Maddison would bring up, correct? Even though whether he got a response, or whether they could provide him with an answer is yet another question,” he discussed on talkSPORT.
“Nonetheless, if I were James Maddison and I were signing up for Tottenham, I’d deem it one of the primary questions to raise.”
Maddison would have likely brought up Kane. But the influence it had on his decision is yet another matter. Fundamentally, if Tottenham opts to sell Kane, they for sure have grand plans in mind.
The Athletic implies that Bayern Munich is hopeful about acquiring Kane. Therefore a move could be on the horizon.
Maddison realizes that Tottenham can only inform him to a certain extent at this stage. They are fervently optimistic about retaining Kane. But there’s a price tag on every player globally.
If Kane indeed departs, Maddison will be a crucial component in the ensuing rebuilding process at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
