Paul Merson Speaks of The Overlooked Excellence from a Tottenham Player Last Season

Last season was not particularly memorable for Tottenham supporters.

Spurs disappointed many fans last season. Their performance saw them on the eighth spot on the Premier League table, and they didn’t have significant contributions to any of the tournaments they participated in.

Although it was a lacklustre season for Spurs, Harry Kane emerged as a beacon of hope.

The forward arguably had his best season yet while donning the Tottenham jersey, scoring an impressive 30 Premier League goals for the team based in north London.

Despite his prolific goal-scoring record, Kane didn’t receive the accolades he deserved last season.

Perhaps overshadowed by the likes of Erling Haaland or due to his reduced number of assists, Kane’s exceptional performance last season didn’t receive the recognition it deserved.

In a conversation on the Akshun NFT’s Twitter space, Paul Merson shared his opinions on Kane. He expressed his belief that many people overlook Kane’s extraordinary performance last season.

Forgotten Excellence

Merson offered his thoughts on Kane and his performances in the previous season.

“As for the top scorer? If he stays, I believe Harry Kane might take the crown this season. There’s a lot of buzz about this Bayern Munich issue, it’s not going away. But if he remains with Tottenham, people tend to forget his accomplishments last season. Despite being part of a struggling Tottenham squad, he managed to impressively notch 30 Premier League goals. Even though the team didn’t qualify for Europe and played poorly, he was only six goals behind Haaland,” Merson pointed out.

Unfortunate Reality

It’s unfortunate that Tottenham’s dismal performance last season has overshadowed Kane’s extraordinary Premier League campaign.

Scoring 30 goals is indeed a remarkable feat. In any other season, he would have bagged both the Golden Boot title and potentially the Player of the Year award.

Regrettably, the stellar season from Erling Haaland hindered Kane’s chances of bagging any of those awards. As a result, his impressive season goes mostly unnoticed.
