Ryan Sessegnon may bid farewell to Tottenham this summer, as Nottingham Forest emerges as the leading contender for his signature.
Since his transfer from Fulham to Spurs, Sessegnon has faced immense challenges. Tottenham shelled out over £20m for his services, but much to their disappointment, his performance in North London has been less than satisfactory.
The Sun’s Alan Nixon suggests that Tottenham could be ready to part ways with Sessegnon in the coming summer.
Rumours suggest that Spurs might approve a year-long loan or perhaps even a definitive transfer, provided they receive a suitable offer for Sessegnon.
Sessegnon, once praised for his ‘exceptional’ showings in a Spurs jersey by Antonio Conte, has had his career stifled by several injuries.
His loan period at Hoffenheim was moderately successful, but his performance since then has been lacklustre to say the least. Coupled with the arrival of Destiny Udogie, Sessegnon’s position in the Spurs line-up remains precarious.
On the other hand, Forest is aiming to build on last season’s momentum and plans to be aggressive in the transfer market. Steve Cooper, who has experience working with Sessegnon during their England youth days, seems eager to have him on board.
A Shift May Be Necessary
Despite the ups and downs at Tottenham, many football enthusiasts still consider Ryan Sessegnon to possess significant talent. His exemplary performance at Fulham hasn’t been parallelled at Spurs, showing glimpses of brilliance at best.
Consistency, or the lack thereof, is the major issue plaguing Sessegnon. It’s not entirely his fault, considering the turbulence at Tottenham in recent times.
Nevertheless, a switch could be just what Sessegnon requires to reignite his career. Cooper, with his proven ability to uplift young players, could provide the catalyst at Forest, a team currently in an upward trajectory.
If a reasonable offer from Forest arrives, it wouldn’t be surprising if Sessegnon is eager to make the move.
