Walsh stated that Tottenham’s interest in Zaha dates back to the era of Mauricio Pochettino. He added that Pochettino was extremely disappointed that the highly talented forward did not end up with Spurs.

Walsh gave insights about Pochettino’s perception of Zaha when he was at Tottenham.

“Indeed, I would have thought that if he aspired to play within the Champions League, he would have chosen a club like Marseille, which we reported was in his prospects,” Walsh stated. He further added, “There was sustained interest from Spurs, and Pochettino, who admired a sideline winger and a player who could outmaneuver an opponent, was quite disappointed that their signing couldn’t materialize,” Walsh mentioned.

A Missed Opportunity

Pochettino’s disappointment over Tottenham’s inability to secure Zaha’s signature is understandable.

Zaha could have been a gem for Spurs during Pochettino’s stint due to his speed, agility, skill and potency in attacking areas.

Regrettably, the moment for Zaha to join Spurs has passed, presenting a scenario of what might have been.
