While commenting on TalkSPORT (28/6 6:46am) Honigstein discussed the 29-year-old’s uncertain future.
The fate of Harry Kane may evolve into the most debated topic in this summer’s transfer window.
Kane, Tottenham’s record-breaking scorer, has just one year left of his current contract with Spurs.
Should Ange Postecoglou fail to persuade him to extend his contract, Kane could leave for free next summer.
A loss of this calibre, particularly without compensation, could spell disaster for Tottenham.
Such a prospect has enticed Bayern Munich into considering the possibility of bringing Kane aboard this summer.
However, Spurs promptly rejected Bayern’s initial bid of approximately £60m.
Honigstein has now stated the figure that Bayern reckon they’d have to offer to successfully attain Kane this summer.
The estimate from the German heavyweights might differ significantly from what Daniel Levy, Chairman of Tottenham, is likely to insist on.
Honigstein Disseminates Bayern’s Position on Kane
When queried about the current sentiment within Bayern, Honigstein opined, “£60m probably won’t set the gears in motion.”
“A climb in the figure, which could also include bonus payments, might encourage some thought. Initially, I can’t speculate how high they [Bayern] might’ve been willing to go.”
“Bayern appears to have the conviction that a total figure of approximately £90m might compel Spurs to decide whether it’s worth retaining Kane for another year or if they should start preparing for his departure, and take the money upfront, rather than receive nothing next year.”
“This is the quandary they’re trying to force Spurs to evaluate.”
“Despite the circumstances, Kane is in a favourable position. Even if the proposal is rebuffed, he’ll remain with Spurs and could take advantage of even more opportunities as a free agent next season.”
“While Spurs aren’t obligated to sell, the decision ultimately rests with them,” Honigstein states.
The implication from Honigstein that Bayern could acquire Kane for £90m may not be well-received by numerous Tottenham supporters.
If Kane’s performance next season allows a return to the Champions League, the lost transfer fee could be compensated.
Nevertheless, rumours insinuate that Kane is inclined to move to Germany and is keen to exit Tottenham.
If true, it may be a matter of time before Kane bids farewell to North London.
