Ange Postecoglou Mightily Impressed by 26-year-old Spurs Footballer

Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou has recently lauded the efforts of recent recruit James Maddison, particularly for his performance in the match against Shakhtar Donetsk.

Tottenham Hotspur trounced their Ukrainian opponents Shakhtar Donetsk 5-1 on Sunday, courtesy primarily of Harry Kane.

Despite rumors concerning his future over the weekend, the 29-year-old displayed supreme finishing prowess, scoring four goals for Spurs.

The synergy between England’s captain and new teammate Maddison— previously from Leicester City—was unmistakable. Maddison delivered a perfect cross assisting Kane for his second goal of the afternoon.

Postecoglou also acknowledged Maddison’s impressive midfield play.

Postecoglou Lauds Maddison

After the friendly, Postecoglou, during his interview with Spurs Play, singled out Maddison for special praise for his stupendous work off the ball.

“Madders’ footballing performance was extraordinary, and his pressing in the second half was exceptional, setting the pace for us,” expressed the Spurs manager.

“When your attacking players are working this hard, it encourages the rest of the team to follow through and that’s what I look for.”

Maddison showcased a spirited midfield performance, even setting up Kane’s second goal after winning a penalty in the first half.

Having moved to North London just this June, Maddison arguably delivered one of his best performances thus far.

He combined a high work rate off the ball with much-needed creative play, filling a void Spurs have felt for some time apart from Harry Kane.

With the season ahead, Maddison’s anticipated impact has left Tottenham fans excited.

The desire remains that Kane continues to form a compelling partnership with the England star, given Spurs’ challenge to retain their record-holding scorer.
